Carlos Sainz will officially be a Ferrari driver next season. The Italian team decided to hire him based on his impressive performances with McLaren over these last couple of seasons. However, there’s a world of difference in performing for Ferrari and Mclaren.
The seat with the Prancing Horse brings with it a lot of pressure. As a result of this intense pressure to perform, drivers can crumble. The team chews and spits drivers out like bubblegum. However, Sainz believes otherwise.
“Ferrari is not a team that ‘eats’ its drivers, honestly.”
For a driver who has never had a continuity of more than 2 years with one team, he appreciates Sebastian Vettel‘s tenure with the team, “You just have to look at Vettel’s career there. Which driver would not like to spend five years there like him? I’ve only been on a team for two years at the most.”
Carlos Sainz wants to emulate his McLaren spell with Ferrari
The Spaniard was enjoying the best years of his career with McLaren. In his F1 career, he has never had the luxury of stability with an F1 team before the Woking-outfit came along and offered him a two-year deal. This brought out the best version of him.
Lando Norris has not been meeting his expectations for quite some time now. The Briton…
He took his maiden pole last year in Brazil and came close to the top step of the podium this year in Italy. He wants to have similar experiences with Ferrari.
“I also want to have such a cycle at Ferrari, to create a similar environment for myself there [like at McLaren], but with the differences that the individual team culture brings with it.
“Hopefully, I will do as well or as well or better at Ferrari. In any case, I will try my best.”
“I’m an improved version of the driver who was with Toro Rosso and Renault. I’ve improved in the races, at the start, in qualifying. It’s a continuous development, and much more intense than I would have thought. This stability has not only allowed me to improve as a driver but also to get used to the car more and generate more power.”
Whilst the Maranello-based outfit is losing a four-time World champion, it is gaining a great team driver in Sainz. He is the perfect racer to compliment the talent of Charles Leclerc. Hopefully, they don’t eat the mellow Spaniard alive.
