The Undertaker retired after providing many noteworthy moments to the WWE Universe. It’s not just about how he performed inside the ring, it was also the overall commitment to the character at all times that made him a legend in wrestling.
He has had brilliant matches, feuds, and storylines during his WWE career. Two matches that are often talked about are the last duo of his epic wrestling history.
The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles – The Boneyard Match
The last match that ‘The Deadman’ appeared in was against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. They wrestled in a cinematic match called the Boneyard Match. Since this was during COVID-19, audiences across the globe tuned in to be a part of the experience.
One of the best moments of the match was AJ Styles’ entrance. He sat up straight from a coffin which gave the audience the idea that it was The Undertaker. However, he entered on a motorcycle, with the fierce look that the Universe has known and grown to admire.
The battle showed the world that ‘The Deadman’ doesn’t shy away from anybody. Even though he has aged, his determination to show up and fight was just the same as before.
Overall, it was WWE’s way of providing a WrestleMania worthy match to the audience during a global pandemic.
The Undertaker shared his view of The Boneyard Match.
Bill Goldberg has been making headlines in the wrestling industry for the past few days.…
“The Boneyard was so cool in the fact that you got a little bit of everything. You got a little bit of the original Undertaker, you got a little bit of the American Badass, and you got a lot of Mark Calaway in that. Like I said, it’s apples and oranges and whether you’re a traditionalist and there’s a lot of people who say you should always lose your last match. You’re not going to make everybody happy. I knew after the Boneyard that it was time to call it a day. I don’t know. It’s all up for interpretation which way you think is better. I don’t have a clear-cut thought of the way I should have done it. It just happened this way and we are where we are.”
Why did ‘The Phenom’ and ‘The Phenomenal One’ have a feud?
The build up to the match started when ‘The Phenom’ took down ‘The Phenomenal One’ to win the Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet match. This was the second last time he appeared in a match inside the ring.
He was not scheduled for an appearance. However, he arrived when nobody was expecting and eliminated AJ Styles.
The last time he appeared in the ring was during Elimination Chamber. AJ Styles was in a battle against Aleister Black. He used the chokeslam on Styles, which gave Black the chance to secure the win, and he did.
These constant interferences from Taker caused Styles to retaliate. Styles caused disturbance during Taker’s promos and took personal shots by bringing up Michelle McCool (Taker’s wife).
These actions from both Superstars convinced the WWE Universe that they were going to clash at WrestleMania 36.
