Fred Rosser, formerly known as Darren Young, recently revealed why he never appeared in AEW. In a recent tweet, he said AEW rejected him twice.
Fans have repeatedly asked him to be on the rising promotion but there was a reason he was never there. Rosser wrote, “I get asked a lot why not AEW? Well, I tried, and I was told NOPE…NOT ☝? but ✌?…besides AEW wasn’t my end goal; it’s always been NJPW.”
After the rejection, Rosser never lost hope and kept trying for other promotions. Finally, Rosser signed with NJPW in August and made his NJPW debut on September 4. Recently, he and tag team partner Rocky Romero lost to Danny Limelight and JR Kratos. Before that, he had also been wrestling on NWA/UWN’s weekly PPV series, “Primetime Live.”
Fred Rosser had a good start in WWE
Fred Rosser debuted in WWE with Nexus as Darren Young. They had a great start, but WWE decided to drop the idea after a while. Post that, Young participated in a few tag team matches. He won the tag team titles with Titus O’Neil.

In 2017, Darren Young became Bob Buckland’s protege. He qualified to be the number one contender for then-Intercontinental Champion The Miz.
He reunited with Titus O’Neil but soon turned heel again. After a few fights, Young was released from his WWE contract that year.
After he wrestled in various independent promotions for two years, he probably contacted AEW during its inception in 2019. However, things did not turn out the way he expected.
